Grant Application for Lift Successful - Wedensday 13 th February 2008

The Office for Recreation and Sport has today advised the PLYC that a grant of $35,000 will be made to assist with the installation of a lift and accessible toilet facilities at the Club.  The grant application was submitted by Neil Ashman and friends on behalf of the Club in late 2007 under the Inclusive Recreation Inclusive Sport (IRIS) funding program.

This is indeed good news for our Club.  Fundraising has been underway for some time and this grant now means that the required funds are available for the work to begin as soon as possible.

Many Club Members along with members of the Port Lincoln Community have contributed to lobbying and fundraising activities to see a lift installed and our thanks go to each and everyone who has contributed in any way.

Installation of these facilities is essential for the full participation of people with a disability in the sport of sailing and will enable greater access to all areas of the Club for members with a disability as well as encouraging new members who might previously been put off by the lack of access and facilities to meet their needs.

In addition we know many of our older members have found access to the Club difficult so it will be wonderful to see this problem rectified at last.
